Unmarried Partner Visa – Join Your Partner in the UK Without Being Married

Comprehensive Legal Support from London’s Leading Solicitors

The Unmarried Partner Visa allows individuals in a genuine and long-term relationship with a British citizen or settled person to live and work in the UK — even if they are not legally married or in a civil partnership. This visa is part of the family migration route, offering a path to settlement (ILR) and eventually British citizenship.

At Right Law Solicitors, we guide you through every step of the process — from proving your cohabitation history to preparing financial documents and representing your relationship clearly and credibly to the Home Office.

What Is the Unmarried Partner Visa?

This visa allows you to:

  • Live in the UK with your partner for 2.5 years
  • Work or study with no restrictions
  • Apply for a visa extension and eventually Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)
  • Bring dependent children to the UK
  • Ultimately apply for British citizenship

This route mirrors the spouse visa but is designed for unmarried couples who can demonstrate at least 2 years of living together.

Who Can Apply?

  • You are in a genuine and subsisting relationship with a British citizen or someone with settled/pre-settled status
  • You have lived together for at least 2 years in a relationship akin to marriage or civil partnership

  • You intend to live together permanently in the UK
  • You meet the minimum income requirement (£18,600 per year, plus extra if children are involved)
