What Is the UK Ancestry Visa?
The UK Ancestry Visa allows eligible individuals to:
- Live and work freely in the UK
- Engage in employment, self-employment, or studies
- Apply with dependants (partner and children)
- Extend the visa or apply for permanent settlement (ILR) after 5 years
- Ultimately become a British citizen
You do not need a job offer to apply, but you must show an intention and ability to work.
Who Is Eligible?
- Are 17 years or older
- Are a Commonwealth citizen
- Have a grandparent born in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, or Republic of Ireland (if born before 31 March 1922)
- Can prove you are able and intend to work in the UK
- Have sufficient funds to support yourself and your dependants
- Are applying from outside the UK
