What Is the Sole Representative Visa Extension?

The Sole Representative Visa allows a senior employee of an overseas company to live in the UK and establish the business’s first commercial presence — typically through a branch or wholly owned subsidiary.

The initial visa is granted for 3 years, after which you must apply for an extension of 2 years. After 5 years of continuous residence, you may be eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).

While this route closed to new applicants in April 2022, those already holding valid status can continue on the route and apply for extension and ILR.

Eligibility Requirements for an Extension

  • You remain the sole UK representative of the overseas parent company
  • The parent company’s headquarters remain overseas and continue to operate
  • You have been employed full-time as a senior representative during your UK stay
  • The UK branch or subsidiary is actively trading and operational
  • You have not taken other employment or established another business
  • You have maintained continuous lawful residence in the UK
  • You meet the financial maintenance and English language requirements (if applicable)

  • Letter from the overseas parent company
  • Evidence of your ongoing employment and salary
  • Company accounts and trading activities of the UK entity
  • Business bank statements, invoices, lease agreements, employee records
  • Confirmation the UK entity remains a wholly owned subsidiary or branch
  • Proof the overseas parent continues to operate independently
