Graduate Trainee Visa – Global Business Mobility Route

Comprehensive Legal Support from London’s Leading Solicitors

The Graduate Trainee Visa, part of the Global Business Mobility (GBM) routes, enables international companies to transfer graduate-level employees to their UK branch for structured training assignments. It’s an ideal path for overseas professionals preparing for senior roles within a global company.

At Right Law Solicitors, we support both sponsoring companies and overseas employees at every stage — from sponsor licence applications to visa submissions. Our London-based solicitors ensure a smooth, compliant, and timely process for businesses and their trainees.

What Is the Graduate Trainee Visa?

The Graduate Trainee Visa allows employees enrolled in a graduate training programme to work in a UK branch of their overseas employer for up to 12 months.

It is part of the Global Business Mobility framework, supporting international corporate mobility. Unlike the Skilled Worker visa, it is temporary and does not lead to settlement, but dependants are permitted and switching to other routes later is possible.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be 18 or over
  • Employed by a company with a valid UK sponsor licence under GBM – Graduate Trainee
  • Have worked for the company overseas for at least 3 months
  • Be part of a structured graduate training programme leading to a managerial/specialist role
  • Hold a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) from the UK sponsor
  • Earn a minimum salary of £24,220/year or £23,100/year (depending on role)

The visa is valid for 12 months and cannot be extended, but applicants may switch to other visa types.

Sponsor Requirements

UK companies must:

  • Hold a valid sponsor licence under the GBM – Graduate Trainee route
  • Assign a defined Certificate of Sponsorship for each trainee
  • Ensure the UK role matches a valid occupation code
  • Report details such as start date, salary, and progression pathway

We support employers with licence applications, compliance audits, and sponsorship duties.
