What Is Naturalisation?
Naturalisation is the legal process by which a non-British national becomes a British citizen. Unlike registration (which applies to certain children and other specific cases), naturalisation is the most common route for adults who have:
- Lived in the UK for a qualifying period
- Held Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or Settled Status
- Met the good character, residency, and language requirements
Once naturalised, you are entitled to a British passport and gain full civic rights in the UK.
